As you may or may not know, the Taylor Made team is not professionally trained. Everything we do is self-taught, learned solely through trial and error (plus a little bit of baking know-how). This being the case, we sometimes get requests for cakes that really challenge us to think outside the box and come up with a totally new method of decorating.
We recently received such a request from our friend Samantha, whose mother trains the family’s dogs to compete in agility competitions. One of their dogs, Rocky, received the American Kennel Club’s MACH (Master Agility Champion) title, and they wanted a cake to serve at the party celebrating this accomplishment. Samantha asked us for a cake version of the family’s favorite picture of Rocky.
Thanks to Christine’s art skills, we were able to create a to-scale drawing of the photo, which we then cut and used as a stencil to help us create the different colors and shading. He actually came out looking pretty adorable! But how could such a handsome dog not be adorable, whether in photo or cake form?
We also learned how to make a super delicious chocolate fudge filling for this cake, so…that’s another flavor to add to our growing repertoire 🙂
