Last weekend, we made our first cake for a baptism party in honor of Christine’s new cousin, Evan. We loved making this adorable baby-blue cake (very fitting for such an adorable baby boy, might we add!), with a layer of vanilla, a layer of chocolate and a half-and-half layer, all with chocolate buttercream filling.
We almost always end up trying something new with every cake order, and this one was our first attempt at “quilted” fondant. We weren’t sure how to approach it, but as it turns out, our metal icing smoother was the perfect tool to replicate quilting. At the last minute, we decided to add sugar pearls in the “x”s to really make the pattern pop.
We’re pretty happy with the way this cake turned out, as were Evan’s parents and family members (from what we gathered!). Most importantly, we were thrilled and honored to be there to celebrate this important milestone in Evan’s life.
